The Holland Hotel, Since 1928, A Texas Historical Landmark in Alpine, Texas.
My husband and I spent Monday and Tuesday nights at the Holland Hotel the last week of March 2017 on a trip to BBNP. We always try to stay in old historic hotels and this hotel definitely met the mark. We took lots of pictures of historic photos through the hotel and the lobby. The Century Bar and Grill in the hotel is a great spot for happy hour drinks with discounted eats. You have to have the Tejas Lager from Big Bend Brewing Company offered there and since the restaurant is closed on Mondays, walk around the corner to the Reata Restaurant for a Texas sized dinner.
Breakfast is continental style. If you want eggs, I recommend driving down Holland Ave, turn left and have breakfast across the street from McDonalds at Magoo's. The Texas Taco with 2 scrambled eggs and chorizo sausage is the best. The Wifi is great; room are small but furnished with antiques, refrigerator and microwave. You'll have Elemis bath accessories and the pillow spray is extra special. There used to be a tiny sign on the bedside table along with the two sets of earplugs provided that read: "We think our train is very quaint, but if ears it pains, plug 'em and it cain't." That didn't appear in our room - the little posted sign would bless the loud train horns - the ear plugs work and the second night we weren't bothered. It is interesting that one of those trains was the Amtrak; the Amtrak station is right across the way. You should be able to request silent crossings; our neighborhood in Fort Worth has achieved that. The little Welcome to the Holland Hotel brochure answered all our questions. We'll be back next time!
